Guinea
Guinea is on the west coast of Africa, facing the Atlantic Ocean, just above where the coast of Africa turns eastward (the Bight of Africa), Guinea is surrounded by Guinea-Bissau, Senegal and Mali on the north, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Cote d'Ivoire to the south and east.
Sometimes known as Guinea-Conakry, the country of Guinea is the second largest producer of the mineral bauxite and is home of the Niger River. It is mostly low-lying country. Over 20 languages are spoken, the main language being French. Its history matches its linguistics, as several African kingdoms have ruled the territory before French occupation in 1890.While the country itself gained independence from France in 1958 and called itself the Peoples Republic of Guinea, the people were far from it, as they lacked many basic freedoms, especially free speech rights, and over 5 thousand people were killed during the early regime.
Besides the bauxite, Guinea produces gold, diamonds and other minerals.
Guinea was hard-hit during the Ebola virus outbreak in 2014.
