Italy is in the southern-most part of Europe, with a long,
boot-shaped peninsula sticking out into the Mediterranean, plus two
major islands, Sicily and Sardinia. The mainland part of Italy is
bordered, in an arc west to east, by France, Switzerland, Austria,
Slovenia and Croatia. To the east is the Adriatic Sea and to the West
the Tyrrhenian Sea, both parts of the Mediterranean. Along with Greece,
Italy is one of the most Mediterranean countries in Europe.
